Charlotte Douglas International Airport is so crowded these days that it is very easy to bump into folks. But blocking folks… especially when you’ve had too much to drink…is never going to end well.
Man Reacts Strongly To Drunk Passenger At American Airlines Boarding Gate At Charlotte Airport…
Feel free to review the videos below, which contain strong language (F bombs) and are not safe for work. From what I can gather, the man in the pink shirt was inebriated and mouthing off with another passenger at a boarding gate for an American Airlines flight. The man in pink pushed the bigger man away, who responded by placing him in a headlock and quickly bringing him to the floor.
An American Airlines employee tried to pull them apart and eventually succeeded. Mr. Pink Shirt angrily demands to press charges–with slurred speech–against the man who took him down. But his friend, or perhaps just a Good Samaritan in the gate area, tries to calm him down and advises him that a lawsuit is not necessary and to just let the guy go.
As an aside, two wrongs don’t make a right and while Mr. Pink Shirt may have been put in his place, it doesn’t mean he’s wrong about the assault.
Another AA employee approaches him, who he curses about, and the second video ends as he is still agitated.
I just flew through CLT Airport earlier this month and I know it’s depressing…so depressing the airport now allows you to carry alcohol through the terminal.
But perhaps this incident reveals (once again) that drinking is not a great way to pass the time, even in a third-world airport like Charlotte.
Arrests and lawsuits are not always the solution to our problems…I don’t condone violence, but perhaps that body slam is all Mr. Pink Shirt needed to wake him up. Then again, it seems he remained quite belligerent.

As for Charlotte being a 3rd world airport, granted it’s busy but it’s much nicer than those sh#tholes like India where the Gandhi’s bathe in the rivers where they sh#t. Right before they go to the call centers to try and scam our credit card numbers before their friends in Pakistan do the same. The next person from those countries that contributes to the world will be the first.
Show me any beer from India as good as a Hop Drop & Roll from NoDa Brewing in Charlotte.

I live in Charlotte and yes, it is a stand your ground state. As a retired Law Enforcement Officer of 30 years in NC, based off the information provided above, I could of arrested both parties involved with disorderly conduct and also tack on a drunk and disorderly for Mr. Pink Shirt as well as a simple assault for the bigger guy and let the District Attorney and courts work it out. Would I have done that? No, I wouldn’t have. Why? Because most likely these two are NOT from NC and having to be present for all court hearings would mean they would have to come back to Charlotte to appear in Mecklenburg County District Court, thus adding another stupid case to an already over loaded system. Policing techniques now a days doesn’t always mean arrest and put in jail. I would of most likely put their names and info into the system and noted the incident. This way, if either of them are ever involved in anything again, when the investigating officer anywhere else in the county runs their name through the system, it would show up and the investigating officer would be able to see it. Key point, self defense is arguable in court, it is not a factor in deciding if a person is to be arrested and/or charged under NC State Law.
I have been to CLT once and it felt like I was at the State Fair. I have never seen so many people squeezed in one place. We had a tight connection and even if we wanted we could not run to our gate. What a disgrace.
With the to-go cocktails they should rope off a fight ring for amateur drunks. It’s a slippery slope.
If person A assualts person B, by pushing, and then person B responds with an equal level of physical force, controlled headlock to the ground, that is not assault, that’s self defense….law achool 101.

After viewing the belligerent actions of the drunk the other gentleman would have a good case of self defense even it the police would arrest him which I doubt as the drunks condition he was in fear that the drunk would escalate the assault if not stopped. Isn’t North Carolina a stand your ground state?

It’s too bad that these public drunkards and rule breakers don’t get their asses handed to them more often. In all reality, no, that is not the case. Had he inflicted bodily harm to Pink Shirt, he could be charged with agrivated assault (a felony), Pink Shirt definitely would be charged for drunk and disorderly. Read my other comment in this thread. Just to be clear, I am a retired Law enforcement officer with 30 years under my belt in NC. Almost on a daily basis I dealt with these situations.

@Valeri AA- exPlat here who has to fly through CLT every other week (no choice). I would love to avoid the place if at all possible. CLT (IMO) is a 3rd world airport or worse. Especially, the B,C & E concourses and especially during IRROPS. Crowds are ridiculous, food options are awful. It reminds me of the old LGA. I have been through 3rd world airports that are better. Matthew is correct.

Pink shirt assaulted the other guy first. Other guy was simply defending himself. Pink shirt needs to learn how to behave like an adult, and being put in his place is a good start.
