Hyatt recently opened its third Waikiki property in Honolulu, a Hyatt Centric. The new hotel looks promising.
Although I was in Honolulu last week and would normally go out of my way to try a new Hyatt property, I just stuck with the “tried and true” Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa nearby for two reasons. One, I was traveling with my parents and used a Suite Upgrade to book at the Hyatt Regency almost a year in advance. Two, my parent’s love the Regency Club at the Hyatt (and I do too).
I was not even going to visit the Centric property until I could properly stay and review it, but my parents wanted to check it out. So they did, and snapped the following pictures–
My parents complained that the hotel has “no ocean views” but that is not the case. Although the hotel is on Kuhio Avenue which is one block behind Kalakau Avenue along Waikiki Beach, guest rooms with partial ocean and ocean views are available. It is true that the lobby level does not have prime ocean views like the Regency.
Here are some stock photos I pulled of the hotel’s website–
Frankly, these rooms look just as nice if not better than standard rooms at the Regency.
Prices at this hotel are competitive: the hotel is running a grand opening special of $199 per night which is about 1/3 cheaper than the Hyatt Regency. I would like to check out this hotel, though I am all Hawaii-ed out for now.
Better Hotel for Hyatt Globalists?
For Hyatt Globalists, this hotel may even be the better choice in terms of the complimentary breakfast amenity than the Regency. While the Regency Club offers a cold continental breakfast (or Globalists can save 15% in the hotel restaurant), the Centric only has a restaurant which means Globalists can order what they wish off the menu for themselves and each registered guest.
Has anyone stayed at the new Hyatt Centric Waikiki Beach yet?
I’m about to pull the trigger on a stay here for May, and the grand opening special rate also includes a waived resort fee and 20% off food and beverage with the only catch being that it is a pre-paid rate.
I stayed at Hyatt Centric on the 31st of December. It was a little hard to get too per GPS, you have to put in Ross Dress for Less to actually get to the Hotel. I am a Diamond and they did waive the Resort Fee…there were a few glitches but the people were extremely nice, the fire pit is very nice at night. The breakfast is good. We then stayed at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki and do prefer that hotel over the Hyatt Centric we just love the ocean views can’t be beat and we love the Regency Club there.
