Alaska Airlines does a fabulous job with in-flight catering, even for those who fly economy class.
Taste Test: Antipasto Platter On Alaska Airlines
After a lovely carnitas bowl breakfast on my flight from Chicago to Seattle, I ordered a an antipasto platter on my connection to Southern California. This flight was under 1100 miles or else I would have ordered the Beechers Flagship mac & cheese, but it was one of the more heartier menu items available from the pre-order menu, along with a fruit and cheese plate.
The cost was $12.99 and this can be reserved between two weeks and 20 hours prior to departure.
Antipasto Platter
Cured meats, kalamata olives, marinated mozzarella balls, candied walnuts, a goat cheese stuffed pepper, roasted red pepper hummus, naan dippers, and sliced veggies.
I was seated in “Comfort” Class, which is odd on an Alaska 737-800 because one of the exit rows is marked as “Comfort” while the row behind it (which actually is a better seat because it has the extra legroom plus recline) is only marketed as economy class.
In any case, after takeoff the flight attendants came around the cabin delivering pre-ordered snacks and food to passengers who had ordered it…but skipped me. I figured mine was not loaded, but when flight attendants later reached my row to offer beverages, I mentioned I had pre-ordered the antipasto platter and the flight attendants confirmed and apologized she had not offered it earlier, pulling it out of her cart and handing to me with utensils and a large napkin.

As an aside, I had a margarita cocktail from Strat and it was very nice – (just like the Paloma last time). As far as I am concerned, Strightaway offers the best pre-made cocktails by a longshot and uses very simple ingredients, which is greatly appreciated.

Turning to the antipasto platter, I must give Alaksa Airilnes credit for pulling it off so well…I ate every bite of it (except for the naan) and really appreciated every part of it, especially the candied walnuts and goat cheese stuffed pepper.

I highly recommend pre-ordering this is you are flying on Alaska: it’s a nice dish and cheaper than anything you’ll find at most airport restaurants.

Meal of the Week! Woohoo! *nom nom nom*
Alaska Airlines has the best main cabin catering in North America IMO. The First Class catering is amazing as well. I always have the best crews as well.
I fly Tampa-San Diego RT monthly and LOVE Alaska Airlines !
You are not alone in that assessment! While inflight dining is highly subjective, AS is consistently ranked among the best in North America, recently winning the 2024 Business Traveler North America Award for Best Inflight Food & Beverage.
