British Airways Executive Club has again updated the interface of its award search engine, though functionally the tool remains unchanged. The only advantage to the new search tool is a more prominent display of which travel days are “peak” and which are “off-peak”.
British Airways uses a tabbed weeklong calendar to display award space, allowing you to see space one week at a time and the ability to toggle between weeks. Up until today, you had to click through on a specific date to see if it fell on a peak or off-peak travel day (remember, British Airways charges different prices based upon which day you travel and partners other than Iberia are always charged at peak level, no matter what the travel day).
I thought the previous interface was much smoother and easier on the eyes, but we will get used to this. The main problem, if you would call it that, remains unsolved, namely that you can only search British Airways using the monthly calendar search tool and even on the weekly calendar you cannot check partner space unless you click through on the specific date of travel. In other words, searching for award space remains an inefficient process on BA, even as I give BA credit for offering the most comprehensive oneworld award search tool.
