Father’s Day Note from United CEO Oscar Munoz

Oscar Munoz Father's Day

A friend forwarded me a Father’s Day greeting sent from United CEO Oscar Munoz to all employees today–

Dear United family,

Our parents are our first and most important teachers we ever have in life. The example they set for us becomes our most enduring influence, and it guides us as we strive to raise our own children.

I know how much I owe to my own dad. An immigrant, a proud member of a union, he worked hard every day as a meat cutter to provide for me and my eight brothers and sisters. His tireless work ethic and values are standards that I’ve tried to live up to and pass on to my own four wonderful children. Today, as proud as I am to serve as CEO of this incredible company, the most important title I will ever have — and the one I treasure the most — will always be: Dad.

I know that, when I went through my health crisis, my children were my saving grace, inspiring me to pull through. Like any father, I’ve always made it my mission to provide a good life for them. But, when it really mattered, it was their simple presence that reminded me just how good my life is. And, that’s because I get to be part of theirs and watch them grow up.

I have no doubt that when fellow dads across our United family go to work every day, what drives us to put in the long hours and late nights, often far away from home, is the pride of knowing that we’re passing on to our children the right values and example.

I hope we all take this weekend to thank our fathers for all they do for us. I also want to thank all the spouses and children in the broader United family for sharing their fathers with us as they keep us flying right. Have a happy and restful Father’s Day.

Sincerely,
Oscar

Very nice sentiment, particularly, “Today, as proud as I am to serve as CEO of this incredible company, the most important title I will ever have — and the one I treasure the most — will always be: Dad.”

Today is my first Father’s Day and I am incredibly humbled, thankful, yet proud to be a father. Fatherhood lends itself to various pressures, but what a joy it is: I would never go back.

Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers out there.
