Emirates Picks Penelope Cruz As Star Of New Ad Campaign

Dubai-based Emirates has named Penelope Cruz as its next brand ambassador. As Emirates launches a new ad campaign and unveils a new slogan, its use of the world-renowned model and movie star seeks to further glamorize the full-service carrier.

“Cruzing Onboard Emirates” – Penelope Cruz Named Brand Ambassador For Emirates

As Emirates describes it, Cruz has long been an Emirates fan and has taken many journeys to Dubai onboard an Emirates flight. Thus, the fit is perfect and Emirates will introduce multiple new TV ads beginning next month. These will air in both English and Spanish, Cruz’s native language.

With a thought provoking theme of ‘travel is not just about the end destination; it’s also about how you get there’, the short ads show Cruz sampling all the exclusive luxuries that Emirates First and Business Class customers experience as they Fly Better, from a crafted beverage in the A380 Onboard Lounge, to an indulgent shower above the clouds, cheering for a football game shown on live TV, to relishing generous helpings of luxury caviar. In other spots, she enjoys the spacious seats in Emirates’ new Premium Economy Class.

She interacts with Emirates Cabin Crew in multiple languages and enjoys the wide variety of movies and content on Emirates’ award-winning ice inflight entertainment system, viewed on a huge 32-inch full HD LCD screen – the largest in the aviation industry. Cruz is also filmed using the personal temperature controls in her private First Class Suite, using bespoke binoculars to enjoy the sky-high views, and wearing the Emirates hydra-active moisturising pyjamas to settle in for a siesta in her lie-flat bed, surrounded by an array of luxury amenities – ensuring her journey is spectacular from the beginning.

Emirates has already shared 17 15-second ads, which you can view below. It is not clear if this is the extent of the campaign, or just the beginning.

I watched all of these and quite like them…they are short, sweet, and effective in showcasing the superior amenities offered on Emirates (though it is bit ironic you won’t see Cruz pictured on a Boeing 777 in a middle seat in business class…).

These appear quite different than the extended ads in the Jennifer Aniston era, which were much more humorous and also very well done:

My favorite “celebrity” airline ad remains the Etihad ad starring Nicole Kidman:

Do these celebrities ad really matter? Probably not, but they are memorable. For example, whenever I hear Morgan Freeman’s voice I am reminded of Turkish Airlines.

CONCLUSION

Penelope Cruz is the latest brand ambassador for Emirates. Looks for a comprehensive ad campaign starting in June 2023 that will included TV commercials in both Spanish and English. If you watch the videos above, you will see these news ads are short, to the point, and effective in highlighting the product offerings available on Emirates.

What do you think of the new Penelope Cruz Emirates ads?

I’m sure Cruz and Emirates together is an important article worth discussing, but am curious to hear your thoughts about Lufthansa investing in ITA…

That will be utter disaster. I’ll get to it.

Not gonna lie, I didn’t know who she was and had to google her. I guess good on her for securing the bag.

Will say that a lot of analyses show that we’re past the era where celebrity endorsements/ads are an effective marketing tool.

You serious? No she’s not Tom Cruise level superstar but she’s always been very famous.

I’m being serious. I don’t pay attention to pop culture.

Yeah, I’d pay full price for a first class suite on Emirates – if it comes with Penelope. So, I’d say that the campaign is successful enough to have you thinking about taking a trip. With her, of course.

@Malik on Wall Street: I’m astonished that you didn’t know who she was. Either you’re about 24 or you need to get out more.

Emirates is brilliant in their marketing. Gotta love how prominently they feature experiences you’re not likely to get: Enclosed suites? Yeah, enjoy those 6 aircraft. Bar for J pax on a 777… don’t think so!

I’ll take a QR connection (in F no less) to SHJ over a nonstop to DXB every day of the week, thanks!
