I spent a few minutes in the Bhutan Airlines Lounge at Paro International Airport (PBH)…and that was quite enough.
Bhutan Airlines Lounge Paro Review (PBH)
While I appreciated the lounge itself, the effort, the friendly hostess, and the cold beverages, that about the sums up the lounge.
You’ll find the lounge beyond passport control and security, on the upper floor of the departures area. There’s also a Druk Air Lounge, the main competitor to Bhutan Airlines.
Inside, you’ll be welcomed in by a friendly lounge attendant where you will find the lounge is simply a large room with chairs…chairs that are not even comfortable.
Each chair had a Bhutan Airlines in-flight pillow on the back of the seat. Portraits of the king are also a prominent feature in the lounge, as is a painting of Bhutan Airlines surrounded by Tiger’s Nest and the Buddha Dordenma Statue outside Thimphu in Kuenselphodrang.
By the way, the lounge is open to business class passengers on Bhutan Airlines and available from two hours before the flight of the day until the last flight departs…some days that is only two flights.
There are not restrooms in the lounge, let alone showers. Restrooms are available outside.
The food and beverage selection included a refrigerator with canned beverages, including soda, beer, water, and juice.
A selection of tea from Twinings:
A limited selection of alcoholic beverages:
Croissants and bread:
While I did not eat or drink anything, my friend had a Coca-Cola. At least it was served in a glass and not a plastic cup!
There was a party of three who seemed to be a diplomatic entourage but were engaging in a conversation that was so loud we deemed it as a cue to leave the lounge.
Better than nothing, to be sure, but the coffee below in the terminal was much better.
Yum … hot yak butter tea ?
