My Top 10 Hotel Stays In 2021

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 31, 2021November 14, 2023 6 Comments

As 2021 draws to a close, it is time for my annual “Top 10” series. Here, I’ll look back on my 10 favorite hotel stays from 2021.

As a reminder, this is not a top-1o all-time list, but only covers my hotel stays in this travel-compromised year. I stayed at more hotels in 2021 than in 2020, but I still had a relatively short list to choose from. As in years past, I was fiercely loyal to Hyatt but for good reason…I have enjoyed superior service, generous upgrades, and great treatment overall. While Hilton and Marriott play breakfast games, Hyatt continues to take care of its loyal guests.

10. Hyatt Regency Belgrade

a building with a glass roof and plants

This is arguably the best Category 1 Hyatt in the entire system. I had a great stay here during an overnight connection in Belgrade.

9. Hyatt Centric Guatemala City

a food on the counter

What a pleasant surprise this hotel was: a comfortable room, great service, and a really nice breakfast spread.

8. Grand Hyatt Sao Paulo

a living room with couches and a television

I love the kind staff at this hotel and the corner suite I received. Great fitness center and I love the house cat.

7. Hyatt Regency Zurich Airport

a plate of food on a table

This is a great new addition to the Hyatt portfolio within a short walking distance of Zurich Airport (yet it feels like you are far away). The Lebanese restaurant, Babel, is highly recommended.

6. Andaz Vienna

a living room with a television on the wall

I enjoyed a lovely short stay here during the summer. From the rooftop bar to the tasty truffle scrambled eggs for breakfast, plus a nice suite upgrade, this is a great hotel.

5. Grand Hyatt Bangkok

a walkway with trees and plants in front of a building

I would call this hotel the surprise of the year, not so much because I should have been surprised at what a great hotel this is, but because every aspect of the stay was incredible and I now have a new favorite Hyatt hotel in Bangkok.

4.  Andaz Munich

indoor swimming pool with plants and a large window

Although I have yet to publish our summer trip report in Germany (it’s coming in the new year), my family received absolutely amazing service at this hotel. This hotel served as a lovely retreat from our “road trip” through southern Germany.

3.  Park Hyatt Paris

I took my wife on a “date night” in Paris in August and we enjoyed a night at this superior hotel.

2. Four Seasons Istanbul

a large white building with a fountain in front of it

The beautiful outdoor common areas, great food, and tremendous service make this a hotel I look forward to returning to.

1. Ventana Big Sur

a pool with chairs and umbrellas and a view of the ocean

My wife and I enjoyed a weekend in Big Sur at the Ventana, an all-inclusive Hyatt property that represents one of the best uses for your World of Hyatt points.

Bringing a smile to my face this morning reading the list and seeing an American hotel at the top of the list. Thanks for including one that is an option for me as I don’t travel out of the country.

    Happy New Year!

Too bad you missed out on the simply miles, you could have got so many miles to visit even better hotels.

It just so happens I’ve experienced some of your top list recommendations. When do you recommend using a Prive travel agent?

Mine has to be the Niepce Paris! It was by far the best breakfast I’ve ever had. It’s about $200 a night but for Paris, that’s not crazy expensive. And the rooms are pretty large for Paris as well and the breakfast was out of this world.

Southern Germany road trip that we don’t know about, eh? I’m guessing that means Roomers Baden Baden must have come in at 11.
