It may have been the ugliest burger I’ve ever been served, but goodness it was delicious. I do love the latest brioche burger on United Airlines.
Taste Test: Brioche Burger With Bistro Sauce On United Airlines
One of the nice perks of holding top tier 1K status with United is that if your upgrade does not clear, you can enjoy free food and drinks in economy class (one item each). While I’d love nothing more than to have my upgrade clear, especially on a transcontinental flight, at least I never go hungry onboard.
I was flying from New York (JFK) to Los Angeles (LAX) on a 757-200 with only 16 seats in business class. My upgrade did not clear (I was left hanging at number one on the list).
Oh well, not the end of the world…I had an EconomyPlus seat with plenty of legroom and although the flight was full, I was still able to get a lot of work done during the journey to LA.
And I enjoyed a nice burger for lunch.
It’s true, this $10 cheeseburger doesn’t look very impressive. In fact, it almost looked as if someone smashed it.
But it was delicious…and the toasted bun, melted cheese, and juicy patty really hit the spot. There was also pickles in it and the bistro sauce had a nice dijon mustard flavor. It was served with additional mustard and ketchup, but really none was required.
Thankfully, those hand wipes that United offers ups boarding are perfect to clean up your hands after eating one of these burgers.
CONCLUSION
I would rate most airline food, especially in economy class, as avoidable (able to be avoided or prevented…by eating in advance). Here, though, it seems that every iteration of the burger on United Airlines is worth eating. This quarter’s brioche burger is worth the investment if you are hungry onboard.
It’a little smashed but still looks ok. But that ingredient list though
There is a reason why presentation counts on food contests. Just by looking at the burger it looks very unappetizing. And for me a burger had to be savored as soon as it is done. God knows when that was cooked. Glad you liked but I would save those calories for something else.
Don’t knock it until you try it. My only complaint is they run out of it a lot before they get to the exit row. They are so good.
Looks exactly like Tommy’s chili burger in LA
I had one recently in F on IAH-DCA. It was one of the pre-order options, and they served it on a plate. While it was fine (and undoubtedly better than whatever the options, though I don’t recall what they were), I would not say it was better than an average fast food burger.
Eating Meat is against many people’s religious and sentimental beliefs. It is violence towards animals and a hate speech. It should not be allowed.
No one should allowed to express their personal opinion here about how much they like eating meat. There is no place for that in a civilized society, especially if you can feed yourself by just eating plants. It’s bad enough we can’t stop them from thinking about it, but at least let’s stop them from expressing it.
On the other hand, it is acceptable displaced anger because a tiger doesn’t hesitate to bite your neck to kill you then eat your drumsticks (legs) and human wings (arms). Since it’s hard to punish a tiger, we kick the dog by killing a chicken.
You can choose not to read the article.
That would be too logical.
Instead talking about hate speech, stopping people from expressing their views, becoming drama queens seems more like what people do on this blog.
Thanks for your illogical and hypocritical statement that validates itself. Your hypersensitivity has shown us all how ignorant and selfish you really are.
Lol,…it must be difficult for you to make it through the day! I just started my day with a good laugh! Thank you!
Troll.
I’m ok with all that.
The suffering of the animal makes it taste better.
Is this sarcasm I’m detecting?
And what country are you from? You obviously don’t believe in free speech. Don’t read anything having to with meat. Your safer that way.
This ranks up there with people posting pictures of a goiter. Just please let me unsee it. God, it even makes In n’ Out look decent, and that’s saying something.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, but I don’t think UA should be lauded for serving something that looks so unappetizing, and comes with such a long list of ingredients. It looks disgusting.
Looks like something that a cow deposited
Debit – “Hate speech”? Have you ever heard of the 1st Amendment? Just a suggestion – crawl back into your “safe place” in the bushes and hug a tree
“The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubt, while the stupid people are full of confidence.” —Charles Bukowski
Please meditate on this.
You must be very confident
Not everyone on this forum is freek’n from America. 1st Amendment is not law across the world silly.
Had one a few weeks ago–gross and will not be having any more.
No kidding. I had the same experience on a recent trip from Newark to Orange county, CA. Flew 1st class and had a selection but opted for the burger as did my colleague. We both agreed that the burger was surprisingly good.
Matt! It’s only Monday – it’s to early for a united cheeseburger article ! I prefer this kinda blog post on Friday ☺️ however I do love your cheeseburger updates !!!
Ha. It was holdover from last week! 😉
I had the International version last week on LHR-SFO 2nd meal in Polaris. It’s a Bacon burger there … didn’t look great but after 9 hours in the air it tasted great and hit the spot.
Alright Matthew, just how many workouts in the gym does one Brioche “smash” burger on UA equal?
An hour on the eliptical.
I’ve had this burger a couple of times and hits the spot when hungry.
Presentation counts if you’re at a Michelin starred restaurant, but on a flight in economy if you can tell by looking at it that it’s a burger and the taste is at least fast food quality then it’s a winner in my book.
Dude, in what LA dumpster do you go to get your food at?? If that thing is considered appetizing and edible, then we really need to start working on our perception and discernment problems!!
I said it was nasty looking, but it tasted great. We don’t go out in LA. We cook at home.
ROTFL,!! Good to know lol
I love meat. Cooked or raw, or perhaps even while it is still alive. Pork, beef, chicken, dog, cat, horse, whatever. I eat meat three times a day. Sometimes In the middle of the night I’ll take my pistol outside and shoot whatever happens by, and cut off a chunk and cook me a nighttime snack.
Honestly, a 7-Eleven cheeseburger at 2am looks more appealing than that!
Always remember to use Palmolive dishwashing liquid, it softens hands while you do dishes!
Unhealthy. Probably cancer-causing ingredients. But hey, you’re young, enjoy!
“Manufactured for United Airlines” that sums it up. I had it last week and found it greasy!
I pre-ordered it when I flew from DTW to HOU. It was good enough, but not better than a 5 guys burger, and certainly not presented well.
I had it before when it came plain, with chilled lettuce and tomato if requested. Now, with Bistro sauce on it, I will order something else. I don’t like the Bistro Sauce, wish it came on the side.
