A Delta flight from Minneapolis to Los Angeles turned back and landed in MSP last night over a lavatory altercation that led to a fistfight with other passengers.
A Citibank VP and his girlfriend were traveling to LA. The woman needed to use the restroom after takeoff and arose to use it, even though the seat belt light was still illuminated. FAs admonished her to return to her seat. She and her boyfriend apparently became nasty, prompting the plane to turn around.
Police met the aircraft and boarded to escort the two off. As they were being led off the plane (with the woman resisting), passengers began to cheer. That was too much for the man, who attacked one of the clapping passengers. Punches were thrown.
It took three police officers to restrain him as he was escorted off the aircraft cursing. Police dragged off his girlfriend.
The man has been released, the woman is still in jail. Both have been charged with disorderly conduct.
Here’s video from two angles of the punching incident:

Did alcohol play a role in this or did the two just have a bad day? Doesn’t matter anyway — no excuse for this sort of behavior. I wish Delta would send them a bill for the extra gas required to return to MSP. The plane eventually continued on to LAX, arriving about 2.5 hours late.
As always, never a dull moment.
Certainly appalling behavior.
It is also interesting the number of people that have to record the incident at close proximity.
Also, what was up with that woman in the front screaming “shut the f**k up” from the window seat? She wasn’t even near the couple. This clearly made her snap.
Not sure where the “Citibank VP” label come from. Assuming that it is accurate, it’s completely meaningless. Pretty much everyone above a bank teller has some sort of a VP title at Citi and most other banks. Senior people below the C-suite have Managing Director titles.
“A Citibank VP”? In the back rows of coach?
Must be a VP for an ATM branch.
I didn’t know they gave such lofty titles to such a menial position.
A bank vp is like the first level of elite in today’s ff programs… pretty much means next to nothing, and lots of them swarming around thinking they’re hot sh*t. got to be at least svp, or evp to remotely even mean anything.
