During a trip through Dubai, an extensive layover gave me a chance to try the Hyatt Place Dubai Wasl District and like other Hyatt properties in Dubai, wow did it impress!

A modern interior complimented the beautiful arabesque limestone building’s exterior. I enjoyed the finer touches along the driveway like simple but beautiful lanterns.

Location

For my purposes, the approximation to Dubai International Airport was key, and the property is located just a short 15-minute drive (though longer if arriving or departing from Terminal 2 due to airport traffic flow.) I have reviewed a Hyatt Place that is closer to the airport however, this location is closer to attractions like the Dubai Mall, Union Metro Station, and the coastal area of the city.

Property

Among the many benefits of the hotel, the property hosts a number of full-service amenities not usually equipped in a select-service chain. The fitness center was well-attended most of the time (I snapped a rare intermission) and offered plenty of equipment for a variety of workout regiments.

An outdoor swimming pool was available. I made my best effort to utilize it but a storm came through and abruptly ended my visit. While small, a lifeguard was on duty at all times, seating included booths and there was service (food and beverage) for those interested. It also offered a unique view of both surrounding Dubai and the apartment suites throughout the rest of the hotel (pictured below.)

World of Hyatt Benefits

Though my stay at the Hyatt Place Dubai Wasl District was brief (just eight hours), the front desk upgraded me to a suite at check-in due to my Globalist status. However, this wasn’t a last-minute consideration by the brand. In fact, upon arriving in my room I found a hand-written welcome from the management team along with sealed fruits and a selection of desserts from the restaurant on-site (more on that shortly.)

I didn’t try all of them, but the ones I did try (chocolate cake, cupcake, layered dessert) were delicious and it was the reason I made certain to try the restaurant later for a special meal.

Whether there’s a note or not, when I find that a hotel not only honors its commitments to loyal guests, upgrades in advance, and has an amenity waiting, that’s excellent customer service.

Suite

Like its sister Hyatt Place property, the Dubai Wasl District location splits the hotel into long-term apartment-style suites and standard hotel rooms. Mine was on the apartment side.

An often overlooked enhancement to any hotel room is a functional balcony. It needed a chair and table, but otherwise offered the safety I look for as a parent and the openness to really take in the city. During the evening’s call to prayer, I found it especially impressive to observe from outside the walls of the hotel suite.

Kitchen

Upon entering the suite, a kitchen awaited me on my right, and a guest bathroom to my left. The kitchen was bigger than some of my apartment kitchens when living in England. It featured a clever design for seating that accommodated four with a washer/dryer combination along with a microwave, stove, and reasonably sized refrigerator. The cupboards were stocked with cookware that could help guests achieve just about any meal.

The open plan kitchen flowed into the living room.

Living Room

The living room was spacious and featured a TV, chair, and wrap-around couch. The couch could be converted into a bed for guests if needed. The balcony was accessible here.

Bedroom

Designed with style, comfortable for my brief nap, and with all of the practical necessities such as convenient outlets (UK plug design), the bedroom was a certain highlight. A wardrobe and drawers gave plenty of space for those settling in for a long visit, the TV was opposite the bed.

Bathroom(s)

Immediately upon entering the suite, a guest bathroom is available to the left. This bathroom is really key, especially for those who may be living and working on the property for some time. This allows guests of the staying guest to open the hospitality of the room to visitors without allowing entry through to the guest’s private spaces in the bedroom and beyond.

The master bathroom was very, very large for most hotels but for a Hyatt Place, it was unheard of. Rain and wand showers in a space that allows guests to relax.

Dining

Given the unusual time of my arrival (3 pm) and departure (midnight), I was aware I wouldn’t have an opportunity to try the hotel’s free breakfast. Room service would also be limited to after the final prayer for the day as the Kingdom decrees. However, I got the chance to experience Iftar, the meal following the day’s fast during Ramadan, and this was something I was so grateful to have the chance to do.

The hotel offered a couple of western options (penne in cream sauce) but these were not inspired. Of all of the myriad things I tried (many of them new to me for the very first time), I didn’t even attempt the western options and the hotel might consider either dropping these altogether or improving them.

Soups, curries, rice, and chicken were among the hot dishes and I will let the imagery tell the story.

Separate from the hot and cold buffet was the dessert table. Separate from that but in the same area was a date and tea service.

I came down from my room about 20 minutes after the last prayer. A large group was just leaving as I approached. The staff for the hotel restaurant had an insurmountable task of cleaning up after a party of more than 100 guests broke their fast. If anything, I was a little disappointed that these guests hadn’t finished more of their plate or taken less from the buffet.

Value

The Hyatt Place Dubai Wasl District offered me superior value at a great price. Whenever I write a review of a hotel, I try to consider both the experience for those without status, as well as those with hotel elite (World of Hyatt) status. I have seen the cash price for this hotel as low as $40 USD and as high as $95 during my search window. With no additional charges for breakfast, a very good kitchen (as long as the food is middle eastern), and all of the amenities it makes the Hyatt Place Dubai Wasl District an ideal place to relax for an upcoming stay in Dubai. The hotel was also offered for 5,000 World of Hyatt Points or a certificate.

Without question, this property should be paid for with cash, especially if the guest is a Globalist with World of Hyatt. It’s an excellent value and upon returning to Dubai, I will absolutely consider this for my family.

What do you think? Have you stayed at this property? How was your experience?

Excellent review! I stayed at this property in December and I’m just an explorist, yet they still gave me a welcome amenity with fruit and dates. This is the first time I’ve received that, but I hope the trend continues!

It seems like the HP’s are all good Dubai, but the one in Jumeirah doesn’t have the best location, while the Wasl HP has the best location for the metro. And the Baniyas square HP has an excellent location, but the Al Rigga is closest to the airport and is near a great mall, called Deira City Centre. But, in my opinion, the Hyatt places in Dubai are all not really in good locations since they’re close to old Dubai, which is overrated in my opinion.

    Wow very solid property indeed!
Kyle, how many nights do you need to requalify for Globalist?
I am currently on my way here in SE Asia with 5 nights left to reach 60 Nights

Sorry. Approximation to the airport? Surely proximity is the better word.

Great review, but given the appalling sight of the cast iron LE CREUSET pot lids on your pics of the buffet, I would never eat there.
