1-Day-Sale: Up To 40% Off United Awards To Tahiti

United Airlines is offering up to 40% off springtime award tickets to Tahiti for MileagePlus members.

Depending upon your MileagePlus status, you can pay anywhere from 42K-49K round-trip for a trip to Tahiti in economy class. Taxes/fees will run $56.93 r/t. This deal is not good for Polaris business class. Travel must occur between March 26, 2019 – May 30, 2019. You can depart form any city Untied serves in the Continental USA or Canada.

You must book a round-trip award, though you can take advantage of the sale price in one direction and any Anytime award or business class award in the other. Space is subject to saver availability, though it appears plentiful right now.

The one day sale is only valid through 11:59PM local time tonight, February 8th. So if you are booking from the West Coast you have until 11:59PM PT. If from New York, 11:59PM ET.

This is the first time I can recall seeing award pricing broken down by elite status. We see extra access to inventory all the time for United elite members, but this brings in a whole new element of dynamic pricing.

Always remember to check the price of revenue tickets for your travel date. With more competition to Tahiti, prices have come down. Still, it appears this is a good deal using points. For example, United fares from New York during this period are $999 r/t. Using 49K miles gets you two cents per point, which is more than the points cost during a good sale. You also have a much more flexible change fee ($125 to change or cancel) versus purchasing a highly-restricted revenue ticket. But do keep in mind you won’t earn any miles when using miles to pay for your ticket.

CONCLUSION

While this sale isn’t for everyone, it’s a very good deal, especially for some smaller cities where paid fares run higher.
