No-Brainer: 5 Reasons The World Of Hyatt Credit Card Is Worth Keeping In Your Wallet

World of Hyatt Credit Card Upgrade

I’m a big fan of the World of Hyatt Credit Card and this is one of the few hotel credit cards that makes sense whether you are loyal to Hyatt or not. It’s a card that, when used correctly, the annual fee is more than offset each year by the value offered.

5 Reasons The World Of Hyatt Credit Card Is Worthwhile

Let’s go through the five top reasons to keep this card. First, though, a quick overview of the card benefits:

  • 4 points per $1 spent with your card at Hyatt hotels
    • includes most on-site restaurants and spas
  • 2 points per $1 for:
    • local transit and commuting (taxis, mass transit, tolls and ride-share service)
    • restaurants
    • cafes
    • coffee shops
    • airline tickets purchased directly from the airline
    • fitness club and gym membership
  • 5 elite qualifying nights just for having the card
  • 2 additional qualifying nights for every $5,000 spent on the card
  • 1 free night each year (category 1-4) on your cardmember anniversary.
  • 1 additional free night each year (category 1-4) if you spend at least $15,000 on card
  • Discoverist status for as long as you have the card
  • 30,000 bonus points for new sign-ups (through March 5, 2025) after spending $3,000 on the card within three months of opening account
  • Earn an additional one World of Hyatt bonus point on purchases that earn one point per dollar, on up to $15,000 of spending within the first six months
  • Auto rental collision damage waiver coverage
  • Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption Insurance
  • Trip Delay Reimbursement
  • Lost Luggage Reimbursement
  • Baggage Delay Insurance
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Annual fee = $95

#1 Anniversary Night

Each year you receive a free anniversary night good for a category 1-4 hotel. I recently redeemed two of these certificates at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya in New Mexico…a resort that was charging over $300/night with tax. You can routinely more than 100% offset your annual fee with the free anniversary night alone.

If you spend $15K on the card each year (I’d consider that the sweet spot), you can earn a second free night certificate.

#2 Discoverist Status

Discoverist status is by no means Globalist status, but it includes:

  • Upgrade to a preferred room, when available
  • 2:00 pm check-out, when available
  • Premium internet
  • Daily bottled water

That 2:00 pm check-out is a big deal…so much less stressful than an 11:00 am or 12:00 pm checkout.

#3 Earn Elite Nights

If you are chasing elite status, you earn five elite nights each year just for having the card and two additional qualifying nights for every $5,000 spent on the card…it makes it easier to re-qualify for status, again more than offsetting the annual fee with this benefit alone.

#4 Four Points Per Dollar At Hyatt

Hyatt is a valuable chain with reasonable redemptions…while you could theoretically earn five American Express Membership Rewards points or 10 Capital One mile per dollar spent when you book directly via their portal, earning four points per dollar on the Hyatt card through direct bookings is valuable and redemptions at Hyat (also a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner) are valuable regardless of your World of Hyatt status.

#5 Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver Coverage

The card includes auto rental collision damage waiver coverage which can save you money every time you rent a car.

CONCLUSION

There are few credit cards that are pure “no-brainers” (as in the type of card you want to get and keep without giving it a second thought). This is one of them. If you do not have a World of Hyatt card, consider signing up for one via the link below and supporting Live And Let’s Fly.

Come on Matthew… 30000 points for $35000 is a major typo.

I agree it’s a very good card, but Hyatt needs to expand their footprint. It’s a wasteland out there in many areas. Granted I don’t want them to pickup inferior properties, they have enough of them already in HP’s, but it’s their biggest negative.

Even in a major metropolitan area like Philadelphia, there is nothing near the airport.

You don’t have this card yourself though, right? Or did you get it recently?

All of the earning categories outside of stays at Hyatt hotels earn more on the Sapphire Reserve and those UR points can be transferred directly to Hyatt! I personally don’t put spend on the card for this reason beyond the $15k to get a free night. The free nights also are less and less useful as the categories keep going up. It’s time Hyatt allow a top up on these cents to a higher category like Marriott does or they will become less and less attractive.
