American Airlines Adds Copenhagen, Naples, Nice Service

American Airlines is adding service to three new cities including Copenhagen, Naples, and Nice as part of a transatlantic international route announcement that will see five new summer seasonal flights to Europe in 2024.

American Airlines Adds New Transatlantic Routes In 2024

Yesterday, American teased us with a video providing clues about today’s route announcement. This morning, it has officially announced five new daily routes which will start next spring:

  • Philadelphia (PHL) ⇄ Nice (NCE)
    • start date: May 6, 2024
    • aircraft: Boeing 787-9
  • Philadelphia (PHL) ⇄ Naples (NAP)
    • start date: June 5, 2024
    • aircraft: Boeing 787-8
  • Dallas (DFW) ⇄ Barcelona (BCN)
    • start date: June 5, 2024
    • aircraft: Boeing 777-200
  • Chicago (ORD) ⇄ Venice (VCE)
    • start date:  June 5, 2024
    • aircraft: Boeing 787-8
  • Philadelphia (PHL) ⇄ Copenhagen (CPH)
    • start date: June 6, 2024
    • aircraft: Boeing 787-9

Tickets will go on sale starting this Sunday, August 20, 2023. Copenhagen, Naples, and Nice represent new destinations for American Airlines, while Barcelona is already served from other hubs (Chicago, Miami, New York, Philadelphia) and the Chicago – Venice flight is a resumption (the route was suspended during the pandemic).

Why these routes? Here’s a video explaining the rationale behind the new service:

American also announced a number of additional scheduling changes, including:

  • Chicago (ORD) ⇄ Athens (ATH) will resume on May 6, 2024 (earlier than previously planed)
  • Charlotte (CLT) ⇄ Dublin (DUB) will resume on March 5, 2024 (earlier than previously planed)
  • New York (JFK) ⇄ Athens (ATH) will resume on March 31, 2024 (earlier than previously planed)
  • Philadelphia (PHL) ⇄ Venice (VCE) will resume on April 4, 2024 (earlier than previously planed)
  • Charlotte (CLT) ⇄ Madrid (MAD) will become year-round service
  • Dallas (DFW) ⇄  Dublin (DUB) will become year-round service
  • Dallas (DFW) ⇄ Rome (FCO) will become year-round service
  • Philadelphia (PHL) ⇄ Barcelona (BCN) will become year-round service
  • Philadelphia (PHL) ⇄ Lisbon (LIS) will become year-round service

We Need More Of This From American Airlines

When it comes to its international route network, I really do not see a coherent plan from American Airlines. That’s not to say there is not one, but American lags behind its two main competitors in terms of international service to Europe and its lack of strategic focus has been somewhat head-scratching (though in AA’s defense, it foolishly retired A330 aircraft permanently during the pandemic and has faced unexpected delivery delays with its new 787 Dreamliners).

None of these new routes are unique to American in the sense that Delta and United already service Barcelona, Copenhagen, Naples, Nice, and Venice. Even so, it is great to see AA play “catch up” in 2024 and I hope the new routes do very well.

CONCLUSION

American Airlines is adding five additional transatlantic routes for the 2024 summer schedule. It is good to see AA compete more aggressively with Delta and United on routes, which by all accounts, have become bread and butter routes during the peak summer travel period.

One question, dear readers: I could not figure out this clue yesterday in the teaser. Do we know now what it means?

If you add up all the distances between the 5 new city pairs it adds up to 22,391 miles (according to gcmap.com)

So most of the guesses yesterday were incorrect. Which leaves the question of why did they use an Arab for the teaser when these are European routes?

With the recent terrorist arrest in Philadelphia last week and tensions high, why show an Arab with a laptop running around the airport? Seems very shortsighted and inconsiderate to citizens still dealing with 7-11 taking over the Sunoco’s in the city.

Remember….See something…say something. Even at the risk of being called names.

So you are ok with these people who want to throw you off a roof for your deviant habits? Or do you know from first hand experiences that it’s just a front?

And many love c#ck as much as you do. With or without sh#t on the member before you finish it off in your mouth?

You may be right, these towelheads might be no different than us with a few freaks hiding behind religion to enjoy their abnormal behavior.

You are the expert, so I’ll await your expert opinion.

Once again, the guy in the video was Sikh, not a Muslim Arab. Sikhs are from India and are an entirely different religion. I have never heard of Sikhs throwing people off buildings. On the contrary, they have been persecuted by both Hindus and Muslims.

I’m as ok with them as I am with the people who shoot us up at US nightclubs, that’s for sure.

“And many love c#ck as much as you do. With or without sh#t on the member before you finish it off in your mouth?”

For someone who despises gay people (as much as you also despise Muslims), you seem very, very, obsessed with c*ck…wonder why.

“You may be right, these towelheads might be no different than us with a few freaks hiding behind religion to enjoy their abnormal behavior.”

You do realize the majority of Muslims, especially those in urban areas, don’t actually wear “towels” on their heads? But why let things let that get in the way of your hatred and bigotry…

Oh Aaron, face it, you are an inferior human based on your freakishness. I know you like to believe you were born this way, but you weren’t. You had someone who made you this way, maybe it’s you, maybe it was an uncle, maybe it was your music teacher, who knows?

But you are definitely special, not many people can claim someone aced themselves and listed them as part of the reason. So congratulations, your bullying contributed to someone not being on this earth anymore.

Then again, you freaks did that to each other for decades starting in the 80’s with you behaviors. I know, it’s “normal”. In your mind sh#tdick.

Dave, let’s not call others “inferior human beings” (that goes for everyone, but you said it first here) and I would invite you to question why you have this fixation on anal sex…over and over again you bring it up. It’s not for me either…but your fixation on it suggests something else.

So others on here that have a “fixation” on Trump secretly want to be him? And actually agree with him and his beliefs?

Same theory as what you put out there and makes the same lack of sense. Good try through, the old “ people who talk about gays must be gay” gimmick. Come on Matt, you are more creative than that.

Yea, we have a bunch of those guys in PA. They run a radio station and run some C-stores wearing their headgear.

And yes, they claimed they were unfairly harassed after 9-11. No clue if they are good guys or bad guys but I’ll stick on the side of playing safe and not trusting them. Especially when everything in their stores is priced higher than Sheetz.

And if these F’s are from India they are just as bad. Those F’s try to scam us millions of times a day from their call centers pitching their garbage.

I just tell them Mother Teresa was a whore and Gandhi loved Burgers and they usually hang up. If not I ask why they allow their kids to bath in sh#t filled rivers daily and drink piss water?

Face it, few places on Earth need to disappear more than India. I’ve been wishing for a limited nuclear war between them and Pakistan for decades.

Interesting video, what I find really remarkable is that they don’t seem at all bothered about marketing their flights outside of the US- even for the NYC flights that are planned with a point-to-point logic, he wanted to sell to ‘New Yorkers’ and not those based in Delhi etc, effectively shutting himself out of a decent chunk of market share.

Having worked in AA network planning awhile ago, home carriers are way more likely to pick up their own citizens. AA has the advantage for paxs out of NYC where Air India commands more loyalty from India origins. Another example of this is Frankfurt to Miami. 90% of the traffic originates in Germany so Lufthansa has a huge advantage over AA and where LH once flew an A389, AA dropped the route. Also explains why ITA/Alitalia struggles. 80% of long haul Italian traffic originates outside of Italy so ITA only has an advantage for 20% of the Italian originating traffic and fights for scraps on the remaining. Still boggles my mind that AA can’t make Philly to Frankfurt or Munich work.

Of course they will be in a privileged position in their home market, but that is also a reason to make a real effort elsewhere, for the same reason that BA keeps chasing the bankers in NYC and AFKL usually offers really keen prices from Spain whereas it’s expensive for tickets starting a few miles down the road on the other side of the Pyrenees (home market). He made it sound like AA has zero interest in attracting pax who are not based in the USA.

It saddens me to read his foolish and ignorant commentary, like confusing Sikhs for Muslims or making such racist and unreasonable generalizations about whole ethnic or religious groups. If he sincerely believes what he writes, then I want to leave what he writes and let others (myself included) call him on it, in hopes he will learn. If I ever find he is just trolling, then I would ban him. But I do not believe that giving him the opportunity to express his thoughts is counterproductive, flawed as they may be. We can all shake our heads at his delusions and try to help understand. I wish he would travel more – that would open his eyes.

Fair, but definitely not trolling. My beliefs on India are based on their overpopulation and pollution that is unsustainable over time and their failure to deal with it. And of course their scam call centers that I blame our politicians of both parties for failing to deal with.

As for travel, I believe I travel for pleasure more than 95% of your readers. It’s just that I enjoy visiting many of the great places here in America over and over.

Anyways, I do appreciate your willingness to allow differing views. It’s becoming a rarity when the PC mob wants to determine what is and isn’t “acceptable” beliefs.
