Capital One Venture X Eliminates Priority Pass Restaurant Benefit

Sad news for Capital One Venture X cardholders, including me: the Priority Pass restaurant benefit will be cut in early 2023. But I’m still keeping the card.

No More Priority Pass Restaurant Benefit For Capital One Venture X Cardholders

I greatly enjoy the Priority Pass restaurant benefit when traveling, which provides $28/person in restaurant credit for you and a guest for select Priority Pass cardholders. These restaurants are generally less crowded than lounges and I have enjoyed some great meals over the years.

Not all Priority Pass memberships are created equal. Those issued in conjunction with an American Express Platinum card do not include the restaurant benefit. Those issued in conjunction with a Chase Sapphire Reserve card do include restaurant access. Up until now, Capital One Venture X cardholders also enjoyed Priority Pass restaurant access, but that is changing in 2023.

Effective January 1, 2023, Priority Pass membership in conjunction with Capital One Venture X will no longer include non-lounge Priority Pass access (which includes restaurants and airport “experiences” like gaming or spas). This is bad news and there is no upside; Capital One is cutting this access because it can.

The good news is that with 10,000-anniversary miles and a $300 annual travel credit, the $395 annual fee still pays for itself. Furthermore, Capital One Venture X cardholders will continue to enjoy access to Priority Pass and Plaza Premium lounges, as well as Capital One lounges (though only one is currently open).

So yes, I’ll keep the card. But this is sad news, especially because I fly through San Francisco (SFO) so often, which offers four Priority Pass restaurants in the terminals that I use most often.

CONCLUSION

The Capital One Venture X will no longer include Priority Pass restaurant access as of January 1, 2023. I hate this news because I use it often, but that probably explains why this benefit is being cut: because people actually use it…

Sadly, it would not surprise me to see Chase follow, though I hold out some hope that it will continue to allow its cardholders to access Priority Pass restaurants.

Will this change impact your use of the Capital One Venture X card?

Very true, that was the biggest scam in American history equally perpetrated by big business, small business, foreign criminals, ordinary citizens and drug dealers. And to this point (and probably forever) no one has been held accountable for scamming. I think everyone in government just wants to move on and forget it happened.

Yes, the fleecing of America continues. Meanwhile at DoD: Last week, the Department of Defense revealed that it had failed its fifth consecutive audit. “I would not say that we flunked,” said DoD Comptroller Mike McCord, although his office did note that the Pentagon only managed to account for 39 percent of its $3.5 trillion in assets.

You can go back to my comment when this card was launched. I said it was “too good to be true”. The issue about redeeming the points and now this will only show I was right. It might be that they underestimated how people would abuse the benefits of the card but I never trusted Capital One.

Still pays for itself with the 10k anniversary points and $300 credit, as well as Plaza Premium Lounges (which PP had dropped), and the 2x on everything makes it useful as an actual credit card rather than a coupon book like Amex. And the points redeeming issue lasted for all of <2 weeks. It’s still very much a net positive to have this card.

Hey, I disagree with you here but according to Aaron we’re the same person talking to ourselves like a schizo, heyyyo!

As I said in Ben’s blog, critical yikes.

That said I still haven’t enrolled in V X’s PP since I still have mine from CSR, I hope they don’t cut that down also.

This is a bummer move by Capital One. Hopefully they step on the gas and open up all the promised Capital One Lounges (and Landings) they’ve been teasing for years at IAD and DEN.

A direct result of airport employees who sign up for the card to get free lunch every day. The lounges typically require a boarding pass. Chase must not care as much or think the benefit is a requirement since they don’t offer any other exclusive lounges.

As a DFW-based flyer, this affects me little, given that I have the C1 Lounge to use when I need it. Still, this is undeniably a crappy move on C1’s part, to cut benefits just a year after introducing the card. It brings up the concern if this will begin the death by a thousand cuts treatment that eventually killed off the Citi Prestige. Though ironically, the fact I held on to that card means I still have access to PP restaurants…

Like you say, the card is basically free thanks to the credits, so I’ll keep it, but this is a shame.

As an SFO flyer this might make me re-upgrade by Sapphire Preferred to a Reserve. I’ll need to do the math, but I suspect it will workout in my favor with all the Chase card’s credits accounted for.

The thing for Capital One is this: the Venture X made me give up my CSR originally, and because of that, all year I’ve been experimenting with splitting my spend between Chase’s ecosystem and Capital One’s. I think if I end up with a CSR again, that experiment will end and Chase card’s will be top of wallet for me again. I like Chase’s points for Hyatt redemptions, and if I have a card earning 3x on travel (my biggest category) with Chase, it feels like I should go all in with them.

So cutting this benefit will cost them a lot of spend from me, even if I don’t cancel the card. Really a shame because I was pretty happy, otherwise.

This sucks. One of the reasons I got the VX was because of the PP restaurant perk. I base in PDX which does not have a PP lounge but there is a PP restaurant. I still think that the card is worth keeping, it pays for itself just among the benefits such as the 10K anniversary bonus, $300 travel credit and 2x miles on everything else. It has been my primary card except for dining and supermarket which I put on my AMEX Gold.
