I’ve been looking forward to today for quite some time. Not only can I breathe a sigh of relief now that my exams are over, but today will mark my last "old fashioned" mileage run on United.
In June, UA dramatically tightened their routing restrictions, meaning instead of flying from Los Angeles to Philadelphia via Seattle, Denver, and Washington (to rack up more miles) I could only make a single stop at a United hub.
Liberal routing restrictions lingered on for a while on a few city pairs, allowing me to book the trip I am taking today, but to my knowledge, all loopholes have now been closed. This is really going to make re-qualification for 1K status harder next year, as my mileage earnings are literally cut from 30-50% with the new rules.
But today I get to indulge in the old rules just one more time: I’m flying from Philadelphia to San Diego via Washington, New York Kennedy, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. It has become a tradition of mine to end the mileage running year on United with a p.s. flight in business class and I look forward to spending the day in the air!
Enjoy your last hurrah of the year, Matthew. Maybe you’ll score a VDB on that IAD-JFK segment. p.s. Biz is my favorite domestic ride.
Congrats on finishing exams. What I’ve seen as the new thing is that one of the remaining exploitable areas is South Florida with the Continental Connection routes there. I’ve seen it easily where I could get 4 segments between RDU and any point in SoFl
