New United CEO Shares 9/11 Thoughts

A FA friend at United sent me the following letter received by all employees today from new CEO Oscar Munoz concering the 9/11 attacks.

Dear fellow employees:

This day – Sept. 11 – is a significant and emotional day. I can recall exactly where I was and what I was doing when I learned of the news. I was living in New York City, and I remember the chaos and fear that so many of us felt during those confusing and difficult times. I lost neighbors and friends and understand the heartbreak this tragedy caused.

The members of the United family who lost their lives in the devastating attacks were co-workers and friends, and they won’t be forgotten. We all continue to honor the lives and memories of those we lost, and that tradition of remembrance exemplifies the strength and great nature of our employees.

I will be at ORD today and am looking forward to being out, talking with employees and hearing their thoughts on this emotional day. Employees at EWR observed two moments of silence coinciding with the times that each World Trade Center tower was struck. In BOS, employees are planning to raise the flag at the gate dedicated to the departure of Flight 175. The Sept. 11 attacks and aftermath affected each of us in different ways, and I encourage you to mark this day in whatever way is fitting to your personal experience and feelings.

Thank you for the compassion and consideration you show to each other and to our customers not only today, but each and every day. This is a team I’m proud to be a part of.

Oscar
