Not being a car guy, I have often availed myself to Chicago’s CTA Blue Line to get from O’Hare Airport into the city and back. This morning, though, I am glad I was far away as a train derailed from the tracks at the airport station, eventually riding up an escalator and injuring 30 people.
No deaths and injuries seem minor, which is great news, but another reminder that life takes very unexpected turns.
I find it strange how much of the media described this as “the train derailed.” A train derailment is generally when there is something wrong with the tracks or a train operates through a switch or curve at excessive speed. In this case, the train didn’t derail like that, it failed to stop at the end of the tracks.
@Carl: Doesn’t derail in its simplest form just mean to go off the rails?
