United Airlines will operate its Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner on six transatlantic routes from Newark beginning in March 2019.

United previously announced that its 787-10s would initially operate on premium transcontinental routes between Newark and Los Angeles/San Francisco beginning in January. Now the first international routes have been announced, all of which will operate from Newark.

787-10 destinations from Newark will include:

  • Frankfurt
  • Tel Aviv
  • Paris
  • Barcelona
  • Brussels
  • Dublin
Start UA Flight Depart Time Arrive Time
March 30 UA 960 Newark 7:50 p.m. Frankfurt (FRA) 9:20 a.m.
March 30 UA 84 Newark 4:55 p.m. Tel Aviv (TLV) 10:15 a.m.
April 29 UA 57 Newark 6:40 p.m. Paris (CDG) 7:45 a.m.
April 29 UA 120 Newark 7:30 p.m. Barcelona (BCN) 9:00 a.m.
May 22 UA 999 Newark 6:30 p.m. Brussels (BRU) 7:45 a.m.
May 22 UA 23 Newark 7:25 p.m. Dublin (DUB) 7:05 a.m.

The new aircraft will feature “real” Polaris business class seating as well as United’s “Premium Plus” premium economy product. The 787-10 will also feature lighting patterns that mimic sunrise and sunset and a new seatback entertainment system including:

  • Split screen capabilities allowing customers to watch a movie and view the flight map simultaneously.
  • A relax mode for customers who want to customize a selection of soothing videos and relaxing audio playlists.
  • The world’s most extensive suite of accessibility features on a seatback entertainment system, which accommodates any level of vision, as well as provides support for customers with hearing and mobility issues.
  • Movie and television recommendations based on remaining flight time and previously watched content.

United will configure its 787-10 with:

  • 44 United Polaris seats (business class)
  • 21 UnitedPremium Plus seats (premium economy class)
  • 54 Economy Plus seats (extra legroom economy)
  • 199 standard Economy seats

United will take delivery of 14 787-10 aircraft over the next two years.

CONCLUSION

I am looking forward to flying the 787-10. Although the business-economy ratio is not as good as the 787-9, this should be comfortable plane to fly across the country or to Europe or Israel on. United is currently the only airline in the world operating 787-8s, 787-9s, and 787-10s.

It looks like their plan with the -10 is similar to US Airways with having these parked on the east coast for Europe turns since they all can be done with one plane except for TLV. Great utilization for the planes and won’t have them cross-crossing the world and breaking down away from their maintenance hub.
