United to Eliminate Emirates as Award Partner on May 28th

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 18, 2011 Leave a Comment

Following Continental’s lead, United’s partnership with Emirates will end on 28 May. You can still accrue award miles miles through that date and have until 28 November to request missing mileage credit for flights taken on or before 28 May. Awards on Emirates may still be booked through 28 May as well, and must be flown by 28 May, 2012.

United’s award chart on Emirates is quite costly (210,000 miles for a first class trip from the United States to the Middle East), but Emirates offers a stellar hard and soft product both in the air and on the ground.

I thought about booking a trip to Australia in Emirates first through Dubai, but a r/t ticket would set me back 450,000 United miles, more than three times the going rate on United or another Star Alliance carrier. I am sure Emirates is great, but not that great…
