Earlier today I published my review of the Park Hyatt Sydney, a tremendous waterfront hotel in Sydney.
But I know many of you are like me: you love nice hotels using points, but don’t want to spend the money to dine at the hotel for lunch and dinner (unless of course there is a club lounge…let’s be honest). It’s not that the food isn’t great. It’s that a five-star hotel charges five-star prices, which can eat up much of your cost savings using points.
Just around the corner from the Park Hyatt Sydney is a restaurant called Fratelli Fresh. It’s a chain restaurant, with seven locations in Sydney.
The restaurant is run by the Rockpool Group, the same restaurant conglomerate that caters the Qantas First Class Lounge in Sydney and first class onboard dining.
A reservation is highly recommended. We chanced it and ending up waiting about 30 minutes at 8pm…
The menu was written on a chalkboard and many items were already out. I still enjoyed a tremendous pasta bolognese with salad followed by schnitzel…simple comfort food. Pizza was also a big component of the menu.
A full coffee bar is also available.

CONCLUSION
I hope you Australian readers won’t view this as my Olive Garden review (an 85-year restaurant critic for the Grand Forks Herald wrote a glowing review of the new Olive Garden in town only to see it go viral across the web). I’m not arguing it was the best Italian food I ever had. I’m not arguing this isn’t just another Italian chain. But I do think this is a great option for dining if you’re staying at the Park Hyatt and want to dine outside the hotel at a reasonable price.
For middle of the night eating the pancake place down the street is useful to know. Just walkable, Mr. Wong is can’t miss (a bit under 15 minutes on foot). I do think you can give Quay directly across from the hotel a miss, you go for the view but have it at the hotel anyway and the food is overrated certainly for the price.
Good to know. Thanks Gary!
Great post. Count me firmly in the camp that hates spending money at overpriced hotel restaurants. And I usually find you actually get 3-star food at 6-star prices…
“End Artwork”?
I should have put the picture below that sign above it.
At the recommendation of a friend, we had a wonderful dinner at Cafe Sydney about 2 weeks ago. It’s on the top floor of the Customs House, about a 5-10 minute walk away from the Park Hyatt. While certainly not cheap, would be less than the hotel restaurant.
